Data Management in the Cloud – Research meets Business
Data Management in the Cloud – Research meets Business
25 June 2015, 16:00-18:00
VU University Amsterdam, Agora Rooms 4 and 5 , Main Building
On behalf of Amsterdam Data Science and the Chamber of Commerce, we invite you to participate in the valorization meeting ‘Research Meets Business’. How can we make research in data management in the cloud applicable in practice?
The topic
Cloud computing (or “the cloud”) has become an essential and pervasive paradigm on which modern ICT is based. It focuses on maximizing the effectiveness of shared resources, which in turns promises to bring important benefits like reduction of the ICT-related investments, costs, and energy footprint. However, cloud migration does not come for free.
How can aid organizations in deciding in favor of cloud migration? And what are the important technical, economic, and environmental issues related to data and cloud?
Possible topics for discussion include:
– How to support sustainable data management in a cloud-based environment?
– What information is relevant to decide on what, how, and when to migrate?
– How to re-engineer legacy systems for a cloud-based environment?
– How to ensure security, privacy, reliability, or performance when ICT applications are partially cloud-migrated?
– What are the criteria to assess the quality of cloud services?
The Goal
The purpose of the meeting is to explore collaboration opportunities on the above topics and challenges. Different forms of cooperation are possible. In this context, we search for companies that for example:
– look for solutions to problems around the above topics, and for which the company does not have enough timewould like to tutor a master student
– would like to tutor a master studentwould like to carry out a pilot project of few months together with a researcher
– would like to carry out a pilot project of few months together with a researcher
Attendance
The meeting is voluntary, but we ask you to pre-define a cloud-related question.
In particular, we are looking for people that seek collaboration from their professional background. In other words, propose a cloud-related question relevant for his or her work/research.
