Twizzie Ramos spits pure fire on the furious “Dream Eater”. Anger is palpable for it runs through the entirety of the track. Volume is a must for the entirety of the piece writhes with such intense discomfort. Lyrically the song explores a sense of true frustration and hopelessness. Further emphasizing this bleak outlook, the arrangement sounds akin to a melted video game soundtrack, just veering ever so slightly into noise. Distortion lends the track a disoriented, disturbed demeanor as it unfurls at its own pace. Beats have a lumbering, physical presence virtually shaking the rest of the piece. Reminiscent of Death Grips’ unflinching depression and seething rage, the whole of the piece has a weirdly hypnotic quality to it.
Melody introduces the piece. From there all else flows through. Lyrics are shouted at the top of the lungs at first. Incredible angst defines the work as it looks forward to nothing, pleading for violence to befall it. The despair is palpable whilst it mulls over the state of affairs, all the sorrow that it brings. Incredibly heavy the way that the lyrics evolve to explore meaning, purpose, and more indicates a larger premise, one that allows for no light. Bass virtually pulses through the entirety of the track, giving it an industrial edge as it rumbles through. Layer upon layer filters in but it all resides in such tremendous darkness.
Accurately capturing the zeitgeist, Twizzie Ramos proves to be a deft storyteller on “Dream Eater”.
