Hi there, my name is Keith McCleary. I’m Entropy’s new Comics Curator, and this is The New Comics.
Well, not quite yet. Fellow geeks are probably already well aware of this website’s fantastic Comics I’ve Been Geeking Out On column by Comics Editor Maxi Kim, as well as Entropy’s frequent posts about comics and pedagogy, comics and gaming, comics and poetics, and more reviews than any bookshelf can handle. It’s safe to say that Entropy is a fan of the funnybooks.
But this month, I’ll be heading up a new feature that — like our equally fantastic short fiction and poetry sections — will seek to shed a light on emerging awesomeness in comics. Starting tomorrow, I’ll be posting new work from the world of sequential art, alongside interviews with that work’s creators.
Simply put, it should be f*#king rad.
And with this in mind, I want to hear from you — what you think about what I’m posting, what new stuff you’re reading that I need to check out. And if you make comics yourself, or if you know someone who does, you need to hit me up on our submissions page.
Just so it’s not totally weird, here’s a bit about me: I love comics. I love genre comics, I love awkward personal comics, I love psychedelic art comics, I love webcomics, and I love not even knowing what I’m looking at on a comics page because I’ve never seen it before. I’ve made and published comics myself for several years, and I teach about comics and graphic novels at UC San Diego.
So if you’ve been published before, or if you haven’t — I really seriously don’t care. Whether it’s an excerpt from your first graphic novel or an excerpt from your sketchpad, if it’s got panels and drawings and word balloons and I can talk shop about it, then I want to hear from you.
Until then, I’ll be here with The New Comics.
See you tomorrow. Let’s get f*#king rad.
