Hello, and welcome back to Stars to Stories, I’m glad you’ve made it here.
There have been very real culture curses & widespread analgesics & mind wipes at work that have pushed people to ignore the legacies of tyranny. Thank the gods & goddesses that those are no longer operable now.
If your anger is shocking to you, ask yourself not why the intensity, but why it took you so long to feel this way?
We only need a wake-up call if we’ve long ignored the morning’s rousing hours that attempt to get our attention every single day. Instead of constantly looking for scapegoats & maintaining illusions of purity, it’s more appropriate for us each to relinquish our relationship to and perpetuation of corruption no matter what brand we follow.
We’re all being asked to heal deeply held slave-master dichotomies. Forget what a heavily entrenched Judeo-Christian society told you, neither position is a holy one.
We’re not here to latch onto foibled leaders that will soon get canceled & expire—we are here to embody liberator in the deepest part of our hearts. We don’t need to look to messiahs, we need to embody messiah wherever & whenever we’re at.
Pass on the message of emancipation to those in need, but don’t prop yourself up as holy and above flaw if you aren’t willing to be tarred, feathered, and sacrificed at the altar.
Our problems don’t stem from the act of revolution, which is an ancient practice. The hindrance comes from calling oneself holy, calling oneself revolutionary while replicating tyranny. We’ve all got tyranny in us somewhere. To deny so is to be foolish.
As Marguerite Duras brilliantly gives voice to, “I know I have crime and maliciousness in me. The rest I don’t know. I stand by every part of myself, this is how I get by…What makes me want to cry is my violence, is me.”
Don’t call yourself angel, innocent if you’re not ready to relinquish the parts of your life, your community, and worldview, and nation that you’d rather not investigate. The parts that you’ve stuffed out of view. That you blamed & projected onto somebody else, some other country, some other group.
Our shadows all collectively belong to each other. These times show us how sticky & implicated each soul is to another on this earth. We can’t kiss or even buy fruit at the market right now without it being potentially devastating to another’s body and immune system. We are linked distinctively and indefinitely to one another.
Maybe Marx would appreciate the invisible lines & webs of labor & connection & longing all getting highlighted in blaring red neon right now.
Shadow work requires us each to be crazy brave, but as James Baldwin said, “We have to get about the business of working for the New Jerusalem, and white America has to make the choice whether or not it will come along.” I, for one, want you there however it is you identify.
It’s all of our job to make sure it that we are on board and prepared to ensure that we’ll help construct and get invited along to these new worlds ahead. For a bright spot of imagination—think of what kind of beautiful public schools we might be able to erect in 2025.
It’s easier to value the things that breed hope & quicken the heart when you’ve let yourself experience the opposite in just as equal or greater measure. The breaking down process can be a scary one filled with uncertainty, but the quality of the manure is of equal importance to the quality of the seed. The times of breakups and solitude build better homecomings and unions. May the later come swiftly, but may each part be blessed.
Stay away from the possessed and demonic & tend to whatever around you is needing care & support. Wellness, safety, & love to you.
