Pomagranite crafts a modern soulful sound with the R&B hip-hop hybrid of “The Treatment”. With moody grooves permeating the entirety of the album it has a meditative reflective quality to it. Lyricism further emphasizes this thoughtfulness as the entire structures of the tracks opt for a certain degree of geometric precision. Beats hit hard, the bass has a physicality to it, but the vocals truly rest at the very heart of it all. Flows possess a certain degree of fire to them, as the wonderful array of references that skitter about in such a gorgeous way. Volume is an absolute must for these songs demand to be felt letting the bass rumble through with a force of nature attitude.
Arrangements recall the brilliance of so much of the Brainfeeder roster, recalling elements of Flying Lotus. Full of neon-hued melodies and chilled out vibes, the tracks nicely merge into a singular unified whole. Pomagranite ensures that the whole album feels connected with each piece a part in a greater, all-encompassing story. With the ornate detail used throughout the album the songs still possess a degree of lightness to the touch letting it all let loose in the best way possible.
Setting the tone for the album “Rest”. Lush keys nicely flow through the whole of the piece. Playing with pitch shifts Pomagranite lets the track embrace a woozy dazed quality which simply stuns. “Trip” opts for a darker vibe as the spaciousness and echoing sounds add to the heightened tension. A stripped-down quality permeates the entirety of the piece while the rhythm leisurely rolls through. On “East” the piece seems to come in and out of focus. Layer upon layer come into the mix further adding to the disorienting quality of the piece.
Wonderful wisps of electronica emerge on the peaceful style of “Run A Vibe”. Easily the highlight of the album everything about the piece has a celebratory quality to it. Full of a sense of swagger the vocals nicely intermingle, with the delivery particularly precise. Minimalism reigns supreme on the sample-laden trip of “I.D.G.A.F.”. Effortlessly bringing the album to a close is the powerful “Come Down”. Hints of nostalgia underpin the atmosphere of the track. Hazy in quality the vocals merge together to seemingly navigate a true stream of consciousness tact.
Full of a living, breathing vitality, Pomagranite’s “The Treatment” offers a profound take on the navigation of the contemporary world, the heartache and struggle it brings even as it occasionally reveals glimmers of hope.
