It is, and has been for a few days, officially 2015. And with a new year starting, that also means the making of New Year’s resolutions and the discussion of all the things we are looking forward to in the new year. So here is that. From the Entropy community, some of our New Year’s resolutions and what we’re looking forward to in 2015.
David S. Atkinson:
For 2015: (1) limit myself to 5 cigarettes per day, (2) walk my dog Georgia ALL THE TIME and STOP giving her my uneaten sandwiches, (3) try to become a better husband to “J” by kissing more and arching my back when appropriate once a month or so, (4) recycle more stuff like the computer that’s been broken since 1998 which still has some of my shit on it, (5) listen to Iranian music and respond and talk about nonwestern Time as if it’s something I do a lot, (6), read more books and not just the ones I’m also reviewing for example read more books written six or seven years ago when I was still messy, and (7), stop bleeding so much.
What I’m looking fwd to: Maggie Nelson’s The Argonauts (Tin House), Magdalena Zurawski’s Companion Animal (Litmus), Morgan Parker’s Other People’s Comfort Keeps Me Up at Night (Switchback Books), a new Joanna Newsom album (fingers crossed!), seeing Lana Del Rey in June, returning to the Yuba River, my pug Ava’s 10th bday, my first time at &now, PJ Harvey’s book of poetry, and the new Rachel Feinstein show at Marianne Boesky.
My resolution this year is to continue to hang out with people who see things different than I do, and to try harder to listen when they talk instead of waiting for my turn to talk.
this year i want to: finish (and start sending out!) my second book, draw/paint more and make crappy comics instead of watching tv before bed, see more of Florida with my partner (a Michigan native) and our kid (swamps, alligators, trees with the roots growing down, caves and sinkholes), write more, be more loving.
One resolution: to write more actual correspondence in 2015 (letters, postcards, etc.). Subsidiary to that, then: collecting mailing addresses.
lose some weight and make the darn quantum narrative
To put my own work before everything, and also to stop worrying so much about the rotten world.
birth a new book and start editing for a ROCKING PRESS that kicks serious ass.
I’m looking forward to Amanda Ackerman’s book from Les Figues. & I’m going to try to share more of my writing (submit/publish it? post on my blog?) instead of hoarding it on my hard drive/google docs.
Play more videogames.
Create a videogame.
Dennis James Sweeney:
Resolution: Be more intentional about the way I use the internet. I’m fairly deliberate and scheduled about what I do in the real world, but I’m like a cave person encountering computers for the first time when it comes to the infinite Facebook scroll and clickbait. The hope is that from now on, every time I get on the computer, I’ll have a specific task that I want to do in mind. That way I can have some more control over my leisure time instead of it having control over me.
news years resolution: hang out, don’t just hole up and watch youtube documentaries in my pajamas.
Michael J Seidlinger:
Resolution – keep being a functional robot. Write new novels. Promote new one, The Strangest. Continue coping CCM-style. Give rise to new ventures throughout the CCM-Entropy empire including, but not limited to, White Rabbit, Enclave, AWP-insanity, etc.
