Adelamonica effortlessly blends pop, electronica, and acoustic ballads together on the graceful “Delusions of Grandeur”. Referencing some of Grace Jones’ finest work, the entirety of the album works as an incredible journey. With highly emotive vocals every track feels akin to a chapter in a greater story. Layer upon layer is applied with a painterly quality allowing both the acoustic and electronic to merge into a stream of consciousness take. A unique soothing quality radiates from the whole of the album, allowing for a large degree of hope to permeate.
By far though the lyricism serves as the very heart of the entire album. Adelamonica’s love of poetry becomes readily apparent for her storytelling has a dreamy quality to it. Exploration of the ebb and flow that makes up a life helps to drive the whole album forward. Highly ornate Adelamonica lets the instrumental richness further punctuate the power of her pieces. Within the track her ear for melody further infuses the album with a strong, fully lived-in quality. These feel like stories that comes straight from the soul.
The bombastic beautiful beats of the opener “Yeah I Know You’re Better Than Me” starts things up in a most perfect fashion. Guitars rush forward in a fantastic glow. Elastic beats come into the fray on the playful “Stop Overthinking”. Her lyrics here explore a life of anxiety capturing the feeling one gets when looking at the ceiling above them. Radiant piano keys intermingle with her soulful voice on the gentle spirit of “Another Speck of Dust”. Synthesizer weave their way into the ornate, powerful message of “As Long As I Believe in Me” where great confidence flows through. A party atmosphere reigns supreme on “Momma Shake Her Bum”.
Neon hued splendor colors the dreamy “Never Gonna Keep Me Down”. A tense funk anchors the whole of the thoughtful “Don’t Honey Me”. By far the highlight of the album comes on the sprawling ambition of “I See Your Light” where the classical elements give the piece a cinematic flavor. Her vocals on this track have a light airiness to them as they soar up into the sky. Delicate piano soulfully floats on by on the reflective aura of “Sorry”. Perfectly bringing the entire album to an incredible close is the meditative journey of “I Am Not Afraid”.
With “Delusions of Grandeur” Adelamonica reveals her life-long love of music in the most spectacular fashion, featuring an engrossing fully immersive experience.
